Alcatel Submarine Networks recently announced that the installation of the Alaska section of the Quintillion submarine optical cable system has been completed and is expected to be put into use in December this year. This is also the first time that the North American Arctic Circle has access to the 21st century ultra-broadband optical fiber network.
According to reports, the Alaska section will be a 1,400-mile submarine and terrestrial fiber optic network capable of providing bandwidth services above gigabit, including a submarine network trunk from Prudhoe Bay to Nome , and provides internet services via branch lines to Utqiavik, Wainwright, Hope Point and Cotsbue.
