The white paper on optical transport network technology in the 5G era has been released. Is 5G still far away?

At present, the Internet and mobile Internet have increasingly become new means of public services, new tools for social production, new carriers of economic and trade, and new platforms for technological innovation, constantly opening up new worlds for network application innovation.

With the in-depth implementation of my country's "Internet +" action plan, the Internet is expected to usher in a new round of development peak, which also puts forward higher requirements for network infrastructure.

Facing the new era and new situation, telecom operators have reached a new starting point and are facing new opportunities and challenges.

On September 14, the third "New Generation Internet Infrastructure Forum" was jointly planned and initiated by the People's Posts and Telecommunications News and China Telecom Beijing Research Institute and was held in Beijing. , the forum has the theme of "New Connection, New Intelligence, New Ecology", where elites from all aspects of the industry discuss the transformation, upgrading and future development of telecom operators.

At the meeting, China Telecom released the "White Paper on Optical Transport Network Technology in the 5G Era".

Li Junjie, director of the Optical Communication Research Center of China Telecom Beijing Research Institute, said that from the 2G to 5G era of communications, the types of user experience services have become more and more diversified, and users’ perception is getting better and better. However, behind mobile communications, The carrier network just plays the role of green leaves and is constantly improving.

In terms of technology, 5G has put forward three major business requirements, massive bandwidth (1G -10G bandwidth), 3 times the spectrum efficiency, the lowest latency is 1ms, and there are millions of connections.

However, what is the demand for the bearer network? Currently, China Telecom has sorted it out. Seven major requirements: large bandwidth, low latency, high reliability, clock synchronization, high flexibility, network slicing, and intelligent collaboration

Therefore, The white paper proposes a comprehensive 5G transport solution based on OTN/WDM: through evolution, it can meet the needs of OTN and WDM networks for broadband and dedicated line transport networks.

The white paper points out: "For large bandwidth, OTN/ WDM provides the lowest cost and highest transmission bandwidth.

At the same time, for low latency, the direct optical layer provides ns-level latency. Existing OTN technology provides 10us-level single-point latency. Ultra-low latency OTN supports 1us-level single-point latency, which is very important for reliability. Flexible OTN/WDM provides multi-level protection and recovery functions.

In terms of clock synchronization, this technology supports the IEEE1588 protocol and its evolution. At the same time, this technology is very flexible and provides ODUflex and Fle at the optical layer.xO and enhanced grouping and routing forwarding functions. Slicing has wavelength layer and ODUflex layer. Finally, intelligent collaboration can provide rapid provisioning and cross-professional collaboration.

Li Junjie said that the success of a new technology must have the support of the entire industry chain. In the 5G bearer OTN technology held at Beijing Research Institute yesterday afternoon At the seminar, more than 50 experts from the entire industry chain conducted a very in-depth discussion on this issue.

We have reached a consensus on several very important aspects. In the next step, we will collaborate with the entire industry chain. Working together, the government in the 5G era has put forward requirements for China's major operators and manufacturers to lead appropriately and take a leading position in the world
